At the beginning of the round in Taivaanrantanmaalari, the players are presented with cards that tell which ingredients must be combined to form a spell. Each player has a board full of different patterns in front of them, where they try to find the right patterns and connect them with a marker. The goal is to guess as quickly as possible what is being drawn and as soon as the player guesses that he knows what the spell is, he must write his answer in the upper corner of the board. When the first player has answered, he covers his answer by turning his board inside out. After this, he turns the hourglass and the other players have 30 seconds to combine the ingredients and write their own answer. After a time, the players reveal their answers and the players who answered correctly all get one star as a point. The player who turned the hourglass gets two stars if his answer was correct and one star if he answered wrong.

After checking the answers, the players wipe their board clean and the player who turned the hourglass plays the next round on the more challenging gray side of the board. After eight rounds, the players tally up their points and the player with the most stars wins the game!
